  • Commonwealth learning specialist pays a courtesy call on the Minister of Education

    Minister of Education Dr. the Hon. Nicolette Henry was today paid a courtesy call from Dr Toney May, Commonwealth of Learning Specialist accompanied by General-Secretary of the UNESCO Secretariat in Guyana, Ms. Patrice LaFleur. The Commonwealth of Learning is an inter-governmental organisation based in Canada, with the Commonwealth being its parent organisation.

  • CSEC pass rate improves to 69 percent

    The Ministry of Education today reported a 69.1 percent pass rate at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), up from 63.68 percent in 2017.

    Dr. Petal Punalall-Jetoo is the National Science Coordinator and heads the Science Unit within the Ministry of Education NCERD, Guyana. She is responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring programmes that improve Secondary School science education. She introduced the Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) pilot project for Primary Schools in collaboration with the Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS) and UNESCO.

  • Education Minister promises innovations, notable improvements in 2017

    Come next year, Education Minister, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine said that there will be a continued commitment to improving the administration of the education sector in more efficient ways.

    He said that there will be focus on the oversight of the 11 education districts as well as setting benchmarks for the dozens of private schools countrywide.
    Dr. Roopnaraine said that some of the key objectives of the upcoming year will be to improve teacher training in keeping with priority areas for education; increase instructional time for students; improve upon monitoring and evaluation; better supervision of capital projects; and enhancing the internal efficiency of the ministry.news 20160914

  • Education Ministry heads in strategy session

    Programme heads from the various departments of the Education Ministry, met to lay out their work plans for 2017.

    The meeting allowed the Education Ministers the opportunity to ensure the education sector is heading in the right direction, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported. The four -day meeting, which came to a close on Friday at the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD), Kingston, allowed for collaboration and cooperation among cross-cutting units within the Ministry.news 20161005 2

    news 20180313 3Recognizing the importance of discipline in schools, today the Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) launched a ‘cluster approach’ training workshop for monitoring the implementation of positive disciplinary methods across schools in Guyana at the National Center for Resource Development (NCERD). 

  • Education Ministry to pilot Grade Maker initiative to aid students’ upgrading

    The Ministry of Education, Department of Culture, Youth and Sport will be piloting the Grade Maker initiative to improve students’ performance, based on individual needs.news 20170306 2

    This came out at a two-day data analysis workshop that opened today. It is a collaborative effort between the Education Ministry and Grade Maker. The latter is a United Kingdom-based assessment technology company that specialises in providing diagnostic feedback to school leaders to support improvement in education delivery.

  • Education sector benefiting from US$6M improvement project

    This deliberate move will be implemented through the Guyana Education Sector Improvement Project (GESIP) which is being executed by the Ministry of Education. The project, which is receiving funding from the World Bank to the tune of US$6 million, is designed to target students at the nursery, primary and lower secondary levels.
