Thousands of school children throughout Guyana, ceased classes from 9:00h, to discuss and reflect on the significance of observing International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (IDEVAW), and to bring into special focus the issue of domestic violence in Guyana. This exercise involved all students and teachers from nursery, primary and secondary, institutions nationwide.

Over 200 volunteers from across the country from diverse professions and political persuasions, unified on a single purpose of spreading the message of eradicating violence against women, and domestic violence, to young attentive minds in the school system. Led by members of Cabinet, Members of Parliament, Educators, Managers, businesswomen, the Men’s group and number of other professionals with deep interests in the issues of domestic violence and violence against women, they took their messages to the next generation of Guyanese leaders.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) commissioned Bygeval Secondary School an A-List school on Tuesday December 3. In a simple ceremony, attended by parents, teachers, students, Regional and Ministry officials, the Honorable Minster of Education, Ms. Priya Manickchand, addressed the gathering and unveiled a commemorative plaque, thereby officially commissioning the school as A-Listed.

Like the recently commissioned Rosignol Secondary School, significant investments were made by the Government of Guyana (GOG) in collaboration with the MOE and the Region Five Administration to ensure that Bygeval Secondary School attained A-Listed status. In that regard, a number of works was conducted particularly in the areas of Infrastructure, Learning Materials and Curriculum Improvement.

CXC delgation makes courtesy calls today

Today the CXC delegation here for the 45th Meeting of Council and the Regional Awards Ceremony made a series of courtesy calls to His Excellency President Donald Ramotar, Honorable Minister of Education, Ms. Priya Manickchand and Leader of the Opposition, Brigadier David Granger.
