The first smart classroom in Region Six at a public school was officially commissioned this morning at the New Amsterdam Secondary School by the Honourable Minister of Education Priya Manickchand.

Five Computer Learning Centres were established today in Region Six at the Auchlyne Primary School, the No. 36 Primary School, the No. 59 Primary School, the Massiah Primary School and the No. 63 New Market Primary School.

In observance of Guyana’s 51st Republic Anniversary Celebrations, the Ministry of Education be conducting the Child Art and Essay Competitions under the theme: “Celebrating Our Veracity in Diversity: Mash 2021 Redefined in Style”. This Theme posits that 2020 was a difficult year for many and has caused us all to make significant adjustments to our lives due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is against this backdrop that we use this opportunity to redefine Mash, 2021 in style. Style, because it provides our learners with a “stage” to be creative and innovative in their efforts to celebrate and showcase the authenticity in in diversities as a Guyanese people.

As the Government of Guyana prepares to launch the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) to fulfil its manifesto promise to provide 20,000 online scholarships to Guyanese, the Honourable Minister of Education Priya Manickchand toured the location today that will house the Academy.

In keeping with the commitment made by His Excellency Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the People’s Progressive Party in its manifesto running up to the election to grant 20,000 scholarships for Online Courses, the Ministry of Education teaming up with the Ministry of Public Service is pleased to announce and commence accepting applications for the awarding of scholarships in a variety of disciplines.

The Ministry of Education is working on operationalizing the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), which will house this program, within this first half of 2021. This program is for Guyanese across all communities in every region and will be made accessible accordingly.

The Ministry of Education has the responsibility of managing the academic and technical aspects of the program while the Public Service Ministry will award the scholarships.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand commissioned a Smart Classroom today at the Leonora Secondary School in Region Three, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara. It is the first Smart Classroom to be commissioned in the region.
