Rosignol Secondary School was commissioned a List-A School yesterday by the Honourable Minister of Education, Ms. Priya Manickchand. In order to bring Rosignol Secondary School to the level of a List-A School, the Government of Guyana (GOG) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) set about investing in a number of critical areas. Significant investment and work were conducted in the following areas: Infrastructure, Learning Materials and Curriculum Improvement.

Infrastructure

With regard to Infrastructure, an extension was constructed to house two brand new state-of-the-art science laboratories well equipped with workstations, furniture and materials (chemicals, tools, equipment, resources). These laboratories now allow the school to offer the separate sciences (Biology, Physics and Chemistry). The old laborotories were converted into five classrooms to comfortably accommodate more children.

+A fully air-conditioned computer lab has been established with 21 additional computers installed enabling each child to have access to a computer when Information and Communication Technology subjects are being taught.

Significant rehabilitation work was also done throughout other sections of the school buildings, inclusive of upgraded electrical works, building repairs and painting. Some of the notable rehabilitation works completed are on the Industrial Technology Laboratory which is now fully furnished with adequate resources. An Agricultural Science Laboratory was also established, fully furnished with adequate and appropriate tools and equipment.

The Library was rehabilitated, painted and stocked with additional books – some of the books used as class sets are also in the library so students can now borrow them. Also, the Home Economics Department was also furnished with adequate materials and equipment so that the various Home Economics subjects can be effectively taught.

With regard to Sport and Physical Education – a tarmac was built to facilitate volleyball and football. Sport gears and materials that the school said were needed were purchased and given to the school
