French Ambassador pays courtesy call on Minister of Education

The French Ambassador to Guyana His Excellency Mr Antoine Joly today paid a courtesy call on Minister of Education Hon Nicolette Henry. During the meeting, the Ambassador and his delegation held discussions with Minister Henry exploring possibilities of how the French nation can assist Guyana with the teaching French locally and to assist in other possible areas of cooperation.

Ambassador Joly and Minister Henry affirmed that such a move will aid in fostering even better relations between the two countries. Additionally, the French delegation wants to explore the possibility of 'twining' French schools with local schools. news 20180920 12This according to the delegation will allow for further training of Guyanese teachers in the teaching of French and for Guyanese students to have a better understanding of that language.
Currently, France is offsetting the cost for two Guyanese teachers to undergo a six months advance French course in French Guiana, which will commence later this year. Minister Henry informed the French team that she will identify a Technical Officer from the Ministry of Education to move the process forward.
