- students encouraged to make informed decisions

He made the charge, on Tuesday, while speaking to several third form students, from the mining town, participating in a career day event at the New Silver City Secondary School.

“Everyone is born with a gift, born with a talent. My encouragement to you is to seek out what is your born talent. What is hidden within you that God has bestowed inside of you? Find that which could be nurtured into a career path of your choice?” Figueira, who is also a teacher, 20180608 3

He noted that career day exercise is a great opportunity to allow students to make “informed” decisions about their future careers.

“It is important when you choose your career at this age that you also try to find out what that career entails. And it goes back to your character, because what you do now. What you say now, the people that you get involved with now, determine your future. When you surround yourself with people who think highly of you, who invest in your time. Those are the people who you need in your life for the future”, she advised.

Academic and professional organisations, such as the University of Guyana (UG), Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), news 20180608Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), Linden Legal Aid Center, Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GNBS) and the Department of Public Information, were present to inform the students of the opportunities available in their agencies.

The students also took a break to participate in a ‘career march’ under the theme: “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
