NGS ‘Maths Camp’ attracts large turnout

As the Government of Guyana(GoG) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) continue to work to improve the performances of National Grade Six children across the country; the ‘Maths Camp’ that started a week ago to aid in this regard has attracted a large turnout.

At F.E Pollard Primary there were more than 300 children from twelve schools and at North Georgetown Primary some 600 children attended with teachers and parents assisting with the teaching and organizing of the exercise.
When Chief Education Officer (CEO), Marcel Hutson visited the school he encouraged the children to study and be attentive to what is being taught. The CEO told the children that is does not matter what community they reside in, but it was important that they understand the importance of the activity to them.
According to Germin Simon a father of a child that attended the ‘Maths Camp’, “this is a brilliant initiative by the MOE”. He said that the camp will help since the teachers are placing greater emphasis on the weak areas while at the same time re-enforcing the concepts that the pupils have a good understanding of.
Simon said he has no hesitation in attending since as a father it was his duty to be a part of his daughter’s education. Against this backdrop, he urged other fathers to attend the camp and give support to the children.
The MOE ‘Maths Camp’ will continue until March 24. National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) is scheduled for March 28 & 29.
