news 20171026The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Guyana is hosting Ms. Enith Williams of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica who is responsible for Student Housing. During her brief stay, a number of meetings will be scheduled to discuss ways of optimizing student housing at the University of Guyana.

Today Ms. Williams and Registrar of the University of Guyana, Dr. Caesar Nigel Gravesande, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Nicolette Henry, Minister of Education in her office, 26 Brickdam. Ms. Williams represents the 138 Student Living – Jamaica Projects Committee and her discussion with Minister Henry was centred on public/private partnership as it pertains to on-campus housing for university students. The Jamaica company is publicly listed and provides more than 1700 units of housing that have been built over the last three years for students attending the Mona Campus.
The meeting, Dr. Williams said was to primarily brief Minister Henry on a proposed intervention that the University of Guyana Is considering to accommodate students of the region on Campus. “This is a conversation to explore possibilities and we are heartened by the minister’s accommodating support of the idea… we are however still in discussions on the way forward,” Williams said.
