Guyanese urged to work together as a unit towards the upliftment of vulnerable youth

─ Young people need role models – Min. Sarabo-Halley

“I think teachers in the community may have to have broad shoulders moving forward. I say that because young people need role models. They need people they can depend on,” expressed Minister of Public Service, the Honourable Tabitha Sarabo-Halley.

The Public Service Minister made this remark on Thursday during a ministerial community engagement at Samatta Point, Grove on the East Bank of Demerara.

“They need people that they believe they can speak to about their issues, that can guide them in the right way,” the minister continued.

These comments came after the Honourable Public Service Minister would have heard issues raised during a community walkabout in Samatta Point.news 20190712 9

To offer solutions that will ensure young people in the community are engaged in constructive activities, Minister Sarabo-Halley said:

“I think we have to find ways and means as the teachers in this village, linking with the government, to try to help the young people in this community… I am willing to be able to work with you to make that possible.”

Residents at the community meeting were therefore urged to work together as a unit towards the upliftment of the vulnerable youth.news 20190712 8

Meanwhile, Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, with responsibility for Labour, the Honourable Keith Scott highlighted the government’s focus on ‘Co-op Societies’.

“Grove has a Co-op that is functioning. I am inviting you to come and see me because I recognise that there is a lot that can be done. Our aim now was to ensure that we bring back that Co-op and to also teach people that Co-ops can absorb all the unemployed youths in your area.”

Minister of Public Infrastructure, the Honourable David Patterson was also present at the meeting and was engaged on fruitful discussions regarding the improvement of roads and bridges in the Grove area.
