As Ministers of Government embarked on yet another community engagement, there was high praise for the strides the government has made in the communities along the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) and the investment made in the lives of the residents.

Following a community walkabout through Clonbrook and Ann’s Grove, Minister of Education, Dr. Nicolette Henry addressed the 200-strong gathering at the Ann’s Grove Secondary School.

The minister relayed her satisfaction to engage with the residents, especially at a personal level.news 20190709 3

“I am pleased to be part of a team that has the people at heart and a team that is really serious about providing a good life for every Guyanese,” Minister Henry reiterated.

One resident called ‘Tracy’ explained that Ann’s Grove/Clonbrook and its adjacent communities need a library to improve literacy performance.

To this end, Minister Henry committed to having the technical officers within the Education Ministry conduct a feasibility assessment to ensure that a facility is put in place for the children.news 20190709 14

She then reminded that the eloquently written piece that was adjudged ‘best composition’ at this year’s NGSA was written by L-Dee Johnson, a student of the Clonbrook Primary School.

Speaking about the commitments made by the government that have been realised and the ones that are still in motion, Minister Henry said this government is sincerely committed to the development of its people.

“This is not a cliché, this is not political jargon, it is sincere,” she explained.

She stressed that all of the initiatives piloted by the government have been keen indicators and a true testimony of this government’s stewardship.

“It also demonstrates in a large way what we say and what we mean when we talk about putting the people first.”
