NGSA begins!

– Minister of Education visits several city schools

Minister of Education Dr. Nicolette Henry this morning visited several city schools as students prepared to write the National Grade Six Assessment to assess the level of comfort and preparedness of the learners.

“It’s really important for me to come to the schools to see how relaxed and prepared the students are,” Minister Henry said.

The schools visited were Ketley Primary School, St. Stephen’s Primary School and St. Gabriel’s Primary School.

The Minister is confident that given the investments the Ministry has made in Primary Education; results will show improvement in all subject 20190418 14

“This year, given the volume of work we would have put into this NGSA it is my expectations that the result will surpass all previous years,” she added.

Chief Education Officer Marcel Hutson who echoed the Minister’s sentiments cited the interventions made to ensure the development of the Education sector to facilitate improved student performance and learning outcomes.

Among the Ministry’s interventions include Professional Development sessions for teachers, free Maths camps, remediation programmes, mock examinations, diagnostic examinations and parent involvement initiatives.

The students sat English and Science today and will be sitting Mathematics and Social Studies tomorrow, Thursday, April 18, 2019.

Additionally, Dr. Henry lauded the sterling efforts of parents, learners, teachers and Ministry Officials to ensure that the students have a successful examination and perform their best.

“I’d just like to say thank you to the team at the Ministry of Education particularly the CEO and his technical officers who really worked very hard and of course the thousands of teachers across this country who worked very hard to prepare the students. I want to also thank the parents who put in a lot of hard work.”
