Carnegie has been engaging the community, interest groups, youth groups, Government organisations, schools, Home Economics teachers, Non-Governmental Organisations, partners and other key stakeholders in the various industries.

According to Lee, Carnegie has responded to the demand of numerous agencies through career fairs, mental health awareness, beauty care and wellness, local promotion and other activities in their decades of service.

Chairperson of the Carnegie Board of Governors, Patricia David reminded the students that based on the mandate of the institution, the CSHE enables the students to become better persons. She urged them to be good ambassadors of Carnegie and ensure that they maintain the school’s standard and reputation alive.news 20190409 2

Chairman of the Council for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Floyd Scott said that TVET is critical for Guyana’s development as the country embraces a period of change. As such, he said that even more critical is the competence of persons to compete in the world of work.

TVET’s Mission is focused on “the provision of a Guyanese workforce with the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes contributing to increased productivity and economic development”.

Scott also advised the students that in an increasingly competitive and developing economy and labour force, it is essential to set themselves apart in their respective fields to be recognised for the excellent quality of service they would be provided upon graduation from the CSHE.news 20190409 1

The skills taught at the institution are geared at enhancing the quality of life of the students while teaching them home improvement, personal development and marketable skill. The school has, over the decades, seen a wide cross-section of persons attending including working men and women, University of Guyana students, teenage mothers, single parents, and unemployed persons.

The renowned Carnegie School of Home Economics, was founded in 1933 by the Scotsman Andrew Carnegie through the Trade Centers for Women of New York and the curriculum was aimed at allowing every girl to learn the skills and attitudes essential for a good, family and community life. The school has since expanded its programmes catering for both male and female in a wider variety of fields.
