St John’s Secondary students to be housed at Zeeburg School

Displaced students of the St. John’s Secondary School at Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, are to find a permanent home in a new modern environment, equipped with computer laboratory, and a range of resources that they were not exposed to previously.

According to Chief Education Officer (CEO) of the Ministry of Education, Olato Sam, come January 2016, the students will be housed in a section of the expanded Zeeburg Secondary School in the region.

He explained that the Ministry is currently in the process of finalising this arrangement that would not only enable Zeeburg Secondary to expand its scope of instruction, but also provide for the amalgamation of students of St. John’s from their previous school.

According to Sam, for the new structure to be effectively utilized in all its capacity, the consolidation of the school is essential. He added that it also creates a better environment than the pre-existing arrangement.

Two years ago, students from St John’s Secondary were relocated to the community centre in Den Amstel, following a decision to phase out that institution, after the building was found to have some structural flaws.
