The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) on Monday hosted several students from various technical and vocational institutes in Guyana for an essay competition, in observance of World Standards Day, 2016.
For the past seven years since MC’s Educational Institute has been in operation, this year the students got the most grade one passes.
MC’s Educational Institute which is located in the YMCA building on Independence Avenue started operation in 2009 under the leadership of Ms. Marcia Craig. Ms. Craig noted that she decided to open the school after she retired from the public system and was approached by some parents to have her teach their children.

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) yesterday hosted a prize giving ceremony for its essay competition. The ceremony was held at 10:00hrs at the GNBS Training room, Sophia. The participants in the essay competition were from technical and vocational institutes throughout Guyana.
The Government, through the Department of Culture, Youth and Sport, will soon roll out a programme to help young people make career choices.
Director of Youth, Melissa Carmichael, in an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), said that the programme will align students with successful young persons in various careers.
The Kuru Kuru Training Centre is taking up an agricultural initiative to make the centre self-sufficient. This is one of the new initiatives added to the Center’s curriculum by the Ministry of Education, Department of Culture, Youth and Sport.
Youths need to be provided with meaningful interventions and long term programmes to combat suicide and crime. This is according to the Executive Officer of the President’s Youth Award Republic of Guyana, Alistair Collins.
