...Minister Valerie Patterson donates cycles to Nappi pupils
Imagine having to walk for one hour to get to school in the scorching sun every morning at the age of 10, then another hour in the afternoon after school has ended. This was the plight of 15 pupils of the Nappi Primary School in Region Nine before receiving kind donations through efforts spearheaded by Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Valerie Patterson.
Minister of Education, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine has announced that a Coordinator of Private Schools has been appointed to regulate the involvement of these essential stakeholders in the education system.
This appointment also gives the private school operators an opportunity to make a structured contribution to the management and enhancement of the education system, Minister Roopnaraine said.
September 8, is International Literacy Day, a day for promoting literacy as a way to empower people and help them improve their lives. In observance, the Ministry of Education today, staged a Literacy Extravaganza at its 21 Brickdam, Stabroek, location.

Government has allocated the sum of $61.7M to carry out repairs to the structurally unsound $1B Kato Secondary School in Region Eight (Potaro/Siparuni).
The school was constructed by Kares Engineering Company and was expected to open in January this year, however the project came under intense scrutiny following the discovery of a number of defects.
A technical audit was subsequently carried out by a private company and the findings were presented to the National Assembly by Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson some months ago.
