Gov’t has kept its promise of inclusion for all in sports

The National Sports Commission (NSC) recently held the first Day of Sports for Special Needs Schools. Eight schools from Berbice, Linden and Georgetown participated in the event at the Guyana Defence Force’s ground, Camp Ayanganna.

Director of Sports, Christopher Jones told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that the initiative is in keeping with the government’s manifesto that speaks to sports for all. “As a government, we don’t only take responsibility of certain individuals, but rather all,” Jones said.news 20161102

Teachers ready for ICT push

The One Laptop Per Teacher (OLPT) initiative is just another tier in Government’s push to contextualise and implement teachers’ professional development in Information Communication Technology (ICT) in education.ICT Coordinator in the Ministry of Education, Marcia Thomas, in a recent interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), explained that teachers were, for years, being trained to use the laptop and to harness other ICT tools to effectively support high quality teaching and learning in schools.news 20161027 5

More lights for playgrounds, recreational spaces for 2017

The National Sports Commission (NSC) will soon launch the 2017 calendar of activities under the theme ‘Light It Up’.

According to Director of Sports, Christopher Jones, this initiative will give persons the opportunity to participate in any sports or recreational activity after sundown.

Digicel completes rehabilitation of Kingston Practical Instruction Centre

As Digicel Guyana continues its social responsibility, it has completed the rehabilitation of the Kingston Practical Instruction Centre which began in July 2015.

Inter-Guiana Games proved Guyana has raw talent

Director of Sport, Christopher Jones said that the recently concluded Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) was quite revealing.

In an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), Jones stated that Guyana does not have sports as an integral part of its schools’ curriculum, but its athletes performed to the best of their ability.
