Overseas based Guyanese contributes steel pans to St. Roses and North Ruimveldt Secondary Schools

Over the last five years, there has been a boost in the appreciation and participation in steel pan music. A committed investment has been made on a yearly basis for the provision of three steel bands for three schools. However, the Ministry cannot do it alone. In this regard, Mr. Aubrey Bryan, a Guyanese residing overseas, today presented two sets steel bands for St. Roses High and North Ruimveldt Secondary School.news 20170106 1

MOE supports Iwokrama’s schools climate change awareness workshops

The Iwokrama International Centre (IIC) for Rainforest Conservation and Development, with support from the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Education, recently embarked on a series of climate change awareness workshops in secondary schools along the coast.

Dr. Raquel Thomas, Director of Resource Management and Training at the IIC in an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), explained that the objective of the programme is to help build awareness among high school students on the negative effects of climate change, and the actions undertaken by Guyana to address these harmful effects.news 20170105 5

Youths from several areas to benefit from literacy, numeracy programme

The Literacy and Numeracy programme under the purview of the Ministry of Education’s Department of Culture, Youth and Sport is expected to be re-launched next week.
