The Department of Education - Georgetown held a pre-Diwali celebration at the 68 Brickdam Office.

Assistant Chief Education Officer (Primary), Mr. Rabindra Singh in his Diwali message said that the lighting of the Diya should not only be seen as illuminating the physical environment but should also be interpreted as the removal of darkness within our lives.2
In delivering Diwali greetings, the Director of the National Centre for Education Resource Development (NCERD), Mrs. Quenita Walrond-Lewis said that Diwali presents the opportunity for persons to pay attention to what they do as individuals to promote, peace, brotherhood and prosperity in their daily lives.
She said, "It is in the message that we give our children about inclusion, about equity, about strong values that promote and maintain goodwill and friendships. This will magnify itself outside of the home and find valuable repercussion in the classroom where goodwill is needed from the youngest to the eldest learners."
Principal Education Officer, Mr. Immanuel Bridgewater said today's programme was an opportunity for staff of the Department to develop a deeper understanding of Diwali and its significance relative to the development of the education sector and Guyana.
