SEN hosts virtual conversation to observe Trisomy Awareness Month and World Down Syndrome Day

(March 21, 2020) – The Ministry of Education’s Special Education Needs (SEN) Unit on Monday afternoon in observance of Trisomy Awareness Month and World Down Syndrome Day hosted a virtual conversation. 

Since 2006, World Down Syndrome Day is observed each year on March 21 to create awareness. This year, the campaign theme is “What does inclusion mean”.

35 Welfare Officers certified to provide Psychosocial support to Students

Some 35 Schools Welfare Officers are now certified to provide psychosocial support to children in schools.

During a small ceremony at the Pegasus Hotel Thursday morning, the Welfare Officers graduated from a European Union (EU) funded Gender Responsive Programme for Psychosocial Support to Children in Schools.

Second Annual Guyana-China Friendship Youth Leadership Development Competition launched

The Ministry of Education and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Guyana signed a Memorandum of Understanding today to launch the Guyana-China Friendship Youth Leadership Development Competition.

This is the second consecutive year the programme will be undertaken. The competition focuses on three areas: a community-based project, critique of a work of art and participation in sports activities such as athletics, gymnastics, dance, and swimming.

Foundation launched to transform UG into world-class institution of higher learning

The long-awaited University of Guyana Foundation (UGF) which will be focused on creating a substantial long-term endowment fund for the university was officially launched on Tuesday.
