  • SEN hosts virtual conversation to observe Trisomy Awareness Month and World Down Syndrome Day

    (March 21, 2020) – The Ministry of Education’s Special Education Needs (SEN) Unit on Monday afternoon in observance of Trisomy Awareness Month and World Down Syndrome Day hosted a virtual conversation. 

    Since 2006, World Down Syndrome Day is observed each year on March 21 to create awareness. This year, the campaign theme is “What does inclusion mean”.

    To improve the management skills of educators across Guyana, seventy-three teachers in the Georgetown Education district on Monday afternoon graduated from the Ministry of Education’s Education Management Certificate Course.

    Educational institutions which remain unaccredited by the National Accreditation Council (NAC) should act immediately to have such implemented, amid the country’s rapid development that will call for proper standards.

  • Smart classroom for all hinterland, riverine communities by year-end

    The Ministry of Education’s ‘Smart Classroom’ initiative is expected to be implemented in every hinterland and riverine community by the end of this year.

    Thus far, 54 per cent of schools in Regions One, Seven, Eight, and Nine are benefitting from this programme.

    (November 14, 2022) – In keeping with the Government’s vision to build, expand and improve educational facilities across Guyana, the Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, turned the sod for the expansion of two schools in Georgetown.

  • Solar power for learning channel’s facilities in Rupununi

    A contract  was yesterday signed between the Ministry of Education and Gafsons Industries Limited for solar photovoltaic systems at the Guyana Learning Channel facilities  in Aishalton and Karasabai in Region Nine.

  • Solar Powered System re-operationalised at the St. Cuthbert’s Mission Secondary School

    The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), on March 28th 2022, under its sustainable energy interventions at community/public buildings, installed a 48kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) as a replacement for the depleted 47.04kWh BESS. This BESS is essential to the operation of the off-grid 6.2kWp Solar PV System which supplies electricity at the St. Cuthbert’s Mission Secondary School located in the community of Pakuri along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway. 

  • Some classes to resume next week, full return to schools by May 3

    The full return to face-to-face classes is scheduled to commence next Monday when the August school term commences, according to a memorandum seen by the News Room.

    There will be a delayed reopening of some schools for the Chistmas Term 2023.

  • Some secondary students being trained in office admin, data operations

    Students from junior secondary schools and the secondary level of primary schools, what are called list C and D school, are being introduced to General Office Administration and Data Operations to prepare them for the working world.
