• Government looking at mentorship programme to help students

    The Government, through the Department of Culture, Youth and Sport, will soon roll out a programme to help young people make career choices.

    Director of Youth, Melissa Carmichael, in an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), said that the programme will align students with successful young persons in various careers.

    Young people in the hinterland will soon have the opportunity to benefit from leadership training and other development opportunities, like their peers on the coastland.

    The youths were reminded that their interest is of priority to Department of Youth which is under the Ministry of Presidency. As such, they were encouraged to use all opportunities to benefit from the plethora of programmes and funding that are available.

    Director of Youth, Melissa Carmichael on Thursday met and interacted with students of two secondary schools in Region Six, Berbice to find out about the social issues, and challenges they face on a daily basis.news 20170217 2

    The Youth Director told the students of the New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School and Vryman’s Erven Secondary School, that posting videos on Facebook whether, it’s about committing sexual acts, nude and semi-nude pictures and other obscene videos, can jeopardise their future opportunities.

  • Youths from several areas to benefit from literacy, numeracy programme

    The Literacy and Numeracy programme under the purview of the Ministry of Education’s Department of Culture, Youth and Sport is expected to be re-launched next week.

    The programme targets young individuals from Mocha, Albouystown, Agricola, Angus Avenue, Weldaad (Region Five) and from Region Six among other areas.news 20170105 6
