Network Engineer Job Description
The Ministry of Education is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer who will be a part of the team that plays a crucial role in designing, implementing, maintaining, and securing the ministry's network infrastructure. This position is vital for ensuring the reliable operation of the Ministry’s communication networks, protecting sensitive data, and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards across all educational institutions and administrative offices under the Ministry’s jurisdiction.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, deploy, and manage secure network architectures for schools, offices, and data centers.
• Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls, routers, switches, and other network devices.
• Implement, configure, and support wireless networks, ensuring secure connectivity for staff, students, and guests.
• Maintain accurate documentation of network infrastructure, configurations, and procedures including the preparation of reports on network performance, incidents, and security compliance for senior management and stakeholders.
• Design and deploy initiatives to secure network systems by implementing firewall rules, VPN configurations, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and security information and event management (SIEM) tools.
• Monitor network traffic and alerts to detect and respond to security incidents and vulnerabilities.
• Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing to identify and mitigate risks.
• Ensure compliance with national cybersecurity regulations and educational data protection standards (e.g., GDPR, FERPA).
• Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure the continuity of network services in the event of an outage or cyber incident.
• Regularly test backup and recovery systems to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Provide technical guidance and support to IT staff at schools and regional offices regarding network and cybersecurity best practices.
• Work closely with the Ministry's IT leadership to align network and security strategies with the Ministry’s overall objectives.
• Conduct cybersecurity awareness training for staff and educators to reduce risks associated with phishing, malware, and other cyber threats. Key Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field.
