President David Granger on Thursday commissioned yet another big bus, this time in Region Six, and it will go towards addressing the transportation woes of children in the Upper Corentyne District.The good gesture was made possible through the President’s ‘3Bs initiative’. And it is not all for Region Six. Two more busses will be delivered in the next two days.

On Monday, the Schools Welfare Unit of the Department of Education – Georgetown, held the first series of Suicide Awareness Sessions at Central High School.
With a theme “Choose Life - Say No to Suicide!,” students and teachers listened to presentations from Mrs. Seeta Nagamootoo, Wife of the Honourable Prime Minister—Moses Nagamootoo, Pastor Eworth Williams, Motivational Speaker, Mrs. Glenna Vyphius, Chief Schools Welfare Officer, Dr. Latchmin, Professional Counsellor and Mr. Kirk dine (Chow Pow). Ziya Rambarran, student of St. Rose’s High School also did a beautiful dance which sent a strong message to “Stop Suicide.”
This is surely the dawn of a new day as Caribbean nations awoke to the news that history was created as the West Indies Under 19 team won the Cricket World Cup for the first time.

As Guyana Celebrates its 50th Independence Anniversary it is an occasion for all Guyanese to join in this historic National milestone of our country. The sojourn of this Nation through 1966 – 2016 has been one of struggles, achievements and endeavors.
The Ministry of Education will take the opportunity through the Children’s Mashramani Programme to celebrate our diversity and independence. Special emphasis is therefore being placed on increasing participation and improving the quality of Children’s Costume Parade in 2016 under the theme: ‘‘Celebration of Diversity, Unity and Sovereignty”
The National Commemorative Commission, a unit of the Ministry of Education, Department of Culture, Youth and Sport, with responsibility for organizing Guyana's Golden Jubilee Independence celebrations, is now accepting entries for the Jubilee Song Competition.
